Mental Health Care Plans

At Double Bay Doctors, we understand the importance of caring for your mental health. A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a vital tool in accessing the support you need to navigate life's challenges.

UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLANS

What is a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)?

A MHCP is a referral provided by your GP to facilitate access to mental health support. Through a MHCP, eligible patients can access up to 10 Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions per calendar year.

Who is eligible?

Your GP can access your eligibility for a MHCP. Those who qualify can receive a MHCP once every 12 months, entitling them to 10 rebateable sessions.

After the initial 6 sessions, a review with your GP is required to access further sessions.

Who isn't eligible?

Patients who do not have a valid Medicare card, or patients who have already obtained a MHCP in the last 12 months are not eligible for a MHCP. After 12 months has lapsed, patients with Medicare can visit their GP to get a new plan.

OBTAINING A MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN

To acquire a MHCP, book a 'Mental Health Care Plan - Initial Consultation' with your regular GP. This appointment incurs a long gap fee; please refer to our fees page for details.

It is essential to continue seeing your usual GP for the initial MHCP and any subsequent reviews to maintain continuity of care.
