Acne is a very common condition that affects people of all ages. It can develop on any area of the body, but most commonly occurs on the face, neck, chest and back.

In some circumstances, acne may warrant medical treatment by a general practitioner or dermatologist. If you are unsure how to treat your acne, you can always speak to your GP to first determine the best course of treatment.

Your GP may refer you to a dermatologist, or prescribe certain medications depending on the type and severity of your acne.

Intralesional Steroid Therapy

Dr Cynthia Yang performs Intralesional Steroid Therapy which can be effective at spot-treating angry or inflamed acne cysts.

Intralesional Steroid Therapy involves the injection of a corticosteroid directly into a lesion on or immediately below the skin.

It is important to note that this type of treatment is best suited to patients who have a pimple or acne cyst that they need to get rid of ASAP (e.g. on the day before a wedding or event!) and is only a spot treatment. It cannot prevent or control acne in general, and therefore cannot replace a more sustainable long-term treatment.

This injection can also be used to treat raised hypertrophic or keloid scars and other skin conditions such as alopecia areata.
