Drivers Licence Medicals
At Double Bay Doctors, we provide supportive, thorough assessments to meet Transport for NSW driver medical requirements. Whether you’ve been asked because of your age, a medical condition, or recent surgery, our GPs ensure your appointment is completed with care - and your results are lodged directly and securely with Transport for NSW.
APPOINTMENT TYPES
We offer two drivers licence medical appointment types depending on your age and circumstances:
75 years and over:
-
For patients aged 75 years and over who require an annual medical to maintain their licence.
-
This appointment also incorporates your annual 75+ Health Assessment. This assessment takes a holistic look at your wellbeing - from physical health through to psychological and social function.
-
This appointment involves 45 minutes with one of our nurses, followed by 15 minutes with your GP. Please allow up to 60 minutes at the practice for this appointment.
-
Patients aged 75 and over are eligible for this health assessment once a year, and it is bulk-billed with a valid Australian Medicare card. If you have already completed your annual health assessment in the past 12 months, our nurses will tailor your appointment so we can focus on the driver’s licence medical without repeating assessments unnecessarily.
Under 75 years with a medical condition:
-
For patients under 75 who have been advised by Transport for NSW to provide a medical assessment due to a health condition, recent illness or surgery, or when upgrading their licence class.
-
This appointment involves 15 minutes with one of our nurses, followed by 15 minutes with your GP.
WHAT TO BRING
-
Your current driver’s licence - this is essential as we need it to complete and submit the digital forms to Transport for NSW.
-
Glasses or contact lenses if you wear them for driving.
-
A list of your current medications and any relevant specialist reports or test results.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
-
Transport for NSW usually writes to you around 8 weeks before your medical is due.
-
Booking early allows time for any follow-up reports if required.
-
If you are 85 or older, Transport for NSW also requires a practical driving test every two years (unless you choose a modified licence).
