MyMedicare

MyMedicare is a free, voluntary registration program that formalises your relationship with your GP and general practice. By registering Double Bay Doctors as your regular practice, you help us provide you with better, more connected care - and you may also benefit from increased access to more services with your GP.

WHAT IS MYMEDICARE?

MyMedicare is a government initiative that allows patients to register their preferred general practice and GP. It's designed to strengthen the relationship between patients and their primary care team, improve continuity of care, and support better health outcomes over time.
Registration is completely free, voluntary, and does not affect your ability to see other doctors.

Why register?

Registering with Double Bay Doctors through MyMedicare means:

  • Your GP and care team have a clearer picture of your health history and ongoing needs

  • You may be eligible for more services with your regular GP

  • It supports more coordinated care, particularly if you manage a chronic condition or see multiple healthcare providers

  • There is no cost to register, and your care will not be affected if you choose not to

Am I eligible?

To register with Double Bay Doctors through MyMedicare, you will need:

  • A valid Medicare card or DVA Veteran Card

  • At least two face-to-face visits recorded at Double Bay Doctors within the last 24 months

If you have only visited once, or are new to our practice, please continue attending and speak to reception when you meet the eligibility criteria.

HOW TO REGISTER

You can register for MyMedicare in one of the following ways:

1. Online via myGov (the quickest and easiest way to register): Log in to your myGov account, navigate to Medicare, select 'Register for MyMedicare' and follow the prompts to register with your preferred practice.

2. At the practice: Ask our reception team for a MyMedicare registration form at your next appointment. Once completed and signed, we will submit your registration on your behalf.

Already registered with another practice?

If you're currently registered with a different practice through MyMedicare, switching to Double Bay Doctors is straightforward. There's no need to formally cancel your existing registration first - registering with us automatically withdraws your registration from your previous practice.

The quickest way to do this is online, via myGov but if you need any help, ask our reception team and they can help you fill out a MyMedicare registration form.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does registering with Double Bay Doctors mean I can only see doctors here?

No. MyMedicare registration does not restrict you from seeing other GPs or visiting other practices. It simply formalises your primary care relationship with us.

Can I register my whole family?

Yes. Each family member needs to register individually, including children. Patients under 14 must have a parent or legal guardian provide consent. Patients aged 14-17 must provide their own consent, though a parent or guardian may complete the form on their behalf if the young person is aware and has agreed.

Can I change my registration later?

Yes. You can change your registered practice at any time by registering with a new practice, which will automatically withdraw your current registration. If you are currently registered elsewhere and would like to make Double Bay Doctors your registered practice, simply register with us and your previous registration will be withdrawn automatically. You can also request to withdraw your registration at any time through Services Australia.

Is there any cost?

No. MyMedicare registration is completely free.

What happens to my information?
